We shall check Khatta Meetha review to see whether director Priyadarshan was able to create the same art.

Story:

The plot of ‘Khatta Meetha’ movie spins around the character of Sachin Tichkule (Akshay Kumar), S/O a retired judge Ramakant Tichkule (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Sachin Tichkule is a college dropout and Trisha plays his ladylove during that time. However, Sachin works as a struggling road contractor, while Trisha becomes a PWD Officer. Sachin Tichkule’s elder brother Harish Tichkule works together with Suhas Vichare(Milind Gunaji) and are very successful since they are very corrupt working in government offices. The plot unveils when Akshay Kumar finally brings the corrupt men to the fore.

Analysis:

Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar is a formidable combo, but they failed to deliver the required trigger amongst the audience as ‘Khatta Meetha’ turns out to be only Khatta. The content of the movie takes a back seat and you can see the lead protagonist screaming more than his natural action.  Although Khatta Meetha comes down heavily on corrupt government officers, the format is conventional and routine.

Director Priyadarshan, who is fond of remakes, once again comes with a 1989 Malayalam remake, but he’s almost 15 years back. There’s no up gradation and the only adjustment Priyadarshan made was to change Malayalam milieu to Marathi.

Khatta Meetha movie starts with some civil contractors embroiled in a bridge collapse scam, but it has no connection to the plot. All this mean, the film lost its way to accommodate Akshay Kumar and his antics. But suddenly when the director Priyadarshan realizes that there’s a lot of time being wasted in conveying very little, the screenplay goes chaos.

This movie is really a wacky film from Akshay Kumar’s camp and certainly not the best of the debut for Trisha. Khatta Meetha script is placed in no man’s land, as the film ends with mediocrity prevailing.

Performances:

Akshay Kumar is screaming rather than speaking in this film. He brought a different definition to lending vocals. But he is a misfit for the movie as he dominated the script.

Trisha Krishnan’s long time dream has finally come true – making Bollywood debut, but I suppose her debut would be a mere formality. Also, her costumes are pitiable.

Tinu Anand has hardly any scope. Makrand Pandey, the aam aadmi Bhagat, and Aroona Irani, failed to get substantial role. Asrani is had one wonderfully well and was able to induce some hilarious moments

On the whole, director Priyadarshan script is totally handicapped, although he has teamed up with Akshay Kumar. Khatta Meetha fails to maintain the tempo and has lost its way in the middle, and eventually faltering at the box office.
