KFCC unhappy with State Budget - KVC Interview

The knowledgeable person at the helm of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce KV Chandrasekhar a well known exhibitor and advocate is unhappy for no consideration shown to Kannada film industry by the just announced State budget by Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda.

KV Chandrasekhar, KFCC President in a telephonic chat on Wednesday night with this correspondent explained that the three major demands were put forth before the Karnataka government.

Here are the excerpts of KV Chandrasekhar interview:

Q. So the KFCC is unhappy with 2012-2013 Karnataka state Budget…

The main demands in the interest of the Kannada cinema industry we have put forward has not been looked at. The sanction of two additional children films to get Rs.25 lakhs subsidy is an old announcement that is incorporated. There is some confusion in that too. The other grant for Karnataka Television Industry of Rs.1 crore as building fund is a welcome step.

Q. What are the main demands submitted to Karnataka Government?

For the 30 years old Hesaraghatta land for film city we urged for basic amenities. For Amrutha Bhavana the sanction of Rs.10 crores was made in the last budget and we asked for release of Rs.5 crores in this financial year for the building. The Amrutha Bhavana was sanctioned when KFI completed 75 years. The third demand was the subsidy grant for 100 Kannada films. The government announced 75 films last time. We sought increase of 25 more films.

The VAT revision, Show tax and ticket fee to Multiplex cinema halls were also enlightened to the Chief Minister by our committee members. Our demand was not more than in total Rs.5 crores was also explained to Chief Minister.

Q. You feel that it is not possible to further take up the demands?

I don’t feel like that. In the allotment of Rs.269 crores to Kannada and Culture department the possibility of getting a share is positively looked at for basic amenities need at Hesaraghatta film city land.

Q. What are the other developmental works going on at KFCC?

We are working strongly on the Competition Commission of India related matters. Soon we are going on an appeal in the interest of fate of regional Kannada cinema. Some bye-law changes meeting are also taking place but it is at the discussion level.

Q. Why the KFCC is keeping mum on the corruption issue laced to 2009-2010 Subsidy to Kannada films issue?

No we are not keeping quiet. We are observing everything. There is already inquiry to this effect. The KFCC thought of meeting the Subsidy committee members with pro and opponent team on Subsidy issue. The amicable sorting out of issue is better for the Kannada film producers.
