Nanalla Movie Review

STORY:

It is about an innocent from the village taking revenge for reasons behind the suicide of his fiancé in city and duping the judiciary with his cleverness.

Director Dinesh Baboo in this film ‘Nanalla’ has given a captivating story. The villager Siddarth (Tarun) comes to city on the day the professor of the college is brutally murdered. He is caught in this case and posted to judicial custody. In the judicial custody a lawyer Sharat Chandra (Ananthnag) takes up his case and in the court hall as public prosecutor Gowri (Kushboo) wife of Sharat Chandra argues that Siddarth is culprit.

Why Siddarth is a culprit? It is because professor of the college Basavaraje Melmane (Sihikahi Chandrau) arrest the modesty of Bhavya (Shuba Punja) fiancé of Siddarth. The professor has the habit of giving coffee to his students mixed with intoxication. His next habit is shooting the nude girl students and making a CD.  Siddarth has seen the recorded version of Bhavya and Basavaraje Melmane in which the former pleading does not work out. Furious with the professor Siddarth takes the extreme step and he chops the professor with a knife.

Very clever Siddarth in the presence of Sharat Chandra and psychiatrist Geetha (Sangeeth) behaves like a split personality. In the court hall the split image of Siddarth also relieve him of murder charges. Siddarth is sent to hospital for treatment and after two years Siddarth is free from split image or Dissociated Identity Disorder.

Till then the audience would feel Siddarth was suffering from the disease. In the last scene of the film Siddarth admits to lawyer Sharat Chandra who saved from the imprisonment that he has pretended to be a man with split personality to take the revenge. Showing the medical records to the lawyer says no one can take action again on his revenge. Now the lawyer is taken aback.

ANALYSIS:

Director Dinesh Baboo in this ‘Nanalla’ has worked on the tight screenplay and shooting in less than 25 days without even taking publicity for the film has given a convincing film with a variety.

Firstly the building of characters with good actors like Ananthnag, Kushboo, Rangayana Raghu and others it is quite easy for the director because all of them are veterans. But taking completely a different role from Chaco boy the director adds new dimension to the actor.

The areas of innocence, intensity of love, haplessness, comedy in the court hall, reuniting the estranged couple, adding two good tunes and nice cinematography director Dinesh Baboo makes it worth watching easily.

What is slightly intolerable is the comedy in the court hall and outside the court hall the protagonist admitting that he has fooled everyone to take revenge brings the disrespect to the system.

Of course protagonist has stayed in the psychiatry division for two years and come out with proper documents. But a person with no disorder getting treatment is illogical. When the man is perfect what treatment is attributed to him the director cleverly keeps aloof.

In this two years of protagonist in the hospital and returning to say he was fine is difficult to digest. Intelligent director Dinesh Baboo should have given a different outlook for this aspect. Even a psychiatrist is duped.

The protagonist walking back to his village with a voice over saying how he has fooled everyone soon after the court verdict with a smile on his face would have been appropriate. Some more practical approach was needed from director Dinesh Baboo.

Otherwise it is full credit to director Dinesh Baboo for giving a neat and tidy film.

PERFORMANCE:

This is the best of Tarun from his dozen films so far in five years of career. He has two different shades to perform. His innocence scores more in this film than the wilderness. He was not able to bring in the stammer disability properly in dubbing.

The conversation of Ananthnag and Rangayana Raghu, Ananthnag and Kushboo are a treat to watch. Shuba Punja although looks hefty on screen has that lovely innocence mixed with sweetness. Kushboo returning to Kannada after a long time is convincing in a short role.

TECHNICALITY:

Both cameraman Suresh Byrasandra and music director Giridhar Diwan are good in their work. Suresh Byrasandra wins more in the outdoors.

Oh Manasae Uliyali Sadha is best of the two. The other song Nanna Ninna Ragadalli is quite OK. Editing and connectivity of scenes are in good standards.

Last But not the Least – Revenge in human being could avenge anything!

A GOOD ATTEMPT  - Score: 3/5

Producer: DB Kumaraswamy
