Kalgejje Kannada Movie Review

Story:

‘Kalgejje’ Kannada cinema is a musical love story filled with sentiments of parents. The young Gowrishanker (Vishwas) is interested in music. He is a violin player. His father does not life. He wants his son to think practically for the livelihood. Gowrishanker mother is encouraging but she fills in the right thing to her son. So the love blossomed for Gowri with Arathi (Roopika) has to be set aside. Seeking job in the cinema industry Gowri comes to Bengaluru and with the help of his friend he becomes a top music director after struggle.

On the other Arathi moves on the wishes of her mother and becomes a heroine. For the same film top heroine Arathi is the heroine and music director is Gowri.

Everything moves later on according to the audience expect in this film directed by Gowrishanker. ‘Kalgejje’ is a symbol of love. The hero Gowri presents ‘Kalgejje’ (the bell tied to the legs) to Arathi. She lives in that memory till she finds Gowri in Bengaluru as music director.

Analysis:

Justice for all is the theory of this ‘Kalgejje’ Kannada film director A Bangaru. The rudimentary style he has learnt from senior directors is very aptly used. For the present generation this ancient story is the weak point. Who wants to see the struggle director? The younger generation does not like preaching. They want sudden developments and shock. This is totally missing.

The first half is filled with rain and rain of songs make it boring and second half is on a lower trajectory. The respect to elders shown in the film – the weight for parents is a good thought in the days of losing such relationships.

The narration could have been made crispy and interesting. The usage of flash back technique is another method that holds the interest of the audience. A Bangaru goes according to the syllabus and textbook format of film making.

The songs coming at the drop of hat is difficult to digest. They are scored well by music director Gandharva. But placement is the big problem for this director.

The struggle of the hero seeking job in the cinema field is a common thing seen and heard in so many films. The turn out here is too dramatic and cursing the young talent was not needed.

Performance:

Vishwas should have improved to this creamy offer. He was seen in paltry roles. When he has got the hero role what he should have known is that ‘Practice leads to Perfection’. He looks so weak while delivering dialogues and in some places he looks good with neat make up and costume.

Roopika getting second chance after ‘Cheluvina Chilipili’ has given over acting. Her looks and close ups have not been controlled. It is as if she is acting.

The best part of the acting department in ‘Kalgejje’ is versatile actor Ananthnag, Rangayana Raghu, Pavitra Lokesh and Sumithra – all the four seniors have done well.
Senior actor Sridhar in the song and dance is an additional boost.

There is no scope for comedy in this film is another down fall for the film.

Technicality:

The music and cinematography of ‘Kalgejje’ is in high standards. Gandharva has given his best of decade stay in Kannada cinema industry.

Bayadhe Eno Nanonhdu Balinalli Nove Nanna Bandhu….rain song and a duet are very well tunes. The choreography for the songs is also good.

Veenus Murthy deserves a treat for his fine cinematography. He has done a competent job.

Last But not the Least – The love subjects on silver screen are not outdated?
